Foundation Trustees approve Thailand fund
Rotary International News -- 11 November 2011
In response to the recent flooding in Thailand, The Rotary Foundation has established the Rotary Thailand Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund, which will support relief and recovery projects in the affected areas.
Thailand has been inundated with its worst flood in half a century, affecting at least 63 of the country's 77 provinces. The significant flooding has already claimed more than 500 lives after tropical storm Nock-ten hit Southeast Asia in late July. An estimated 3.1 million people have been affected and 4 million acres of farmland have been damaged.
Ways to donate
You may donate online or by check payable to The Rotary Foundation, including the notation
"Rotary Thailand Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund, #G10009" on the memo line, to:
The Rotary Foundation
14280 Collections Center Drive
Chicago, IL 60693 USA
You may also donate through your international office or RI fiscal agent. Rotary districts may contribute District Designated Fund allocations. Download the form (PDF).
The deadline to contribute is 30 June 2012.
How the fund will be managed
An international committee of Rotarians close to the situation will oversee the fund. They will identify the needs of the affected communities, manage the distribution of funds, oversee project implementation, report on projects, and ensure proper stewardship.
This approach is similar to how the Foundation managed the Rotary Japan 2011 Disaster Recovery Fund and Rotary Horn of Africa Famine and Refugee Relief Fund.
Rotary clubs and districts may still apply for Matching Grants and global grants funded by the World Fund to support disaster relief and recovery projects in Thailand. Matching Grants do not have to meet the 50 percent minimum for international partner contributions, but all other standard requirements will apply.
Recognition
Cash contributions designated towards the Rotary Thailand Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund are not eligible for Paul Harris Fellow recognition, but are eligible for major donor recognition at the appropriate level.
